“He puzzled and puzzed till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. Maybe Christmas, he thought… doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps… means a little bit more!”
— How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Christmastime may be my favorite time of year. Cuddling up inside by the fire, eating delicious food, hanging with friends and family, and despite what the Grinch says, giving gifts. This year I decided to give myself a gift, a new camera. Not a replacement camera mind you, I still love my Nikon D90, but a smaller, stealthier, street photography camera: the Panasonic Lumix GX1. As much as I love the D90, lugging around a bulky DSLR all the time becomes a bit trying. The GX1 gives me the portability of a point and shoot with the quality of a Micro Four Thirds camera. Merry Christmas to me!
This Christmas I stayed in London for the holiday, but I traveled to San Francisco for work a week or two before. After a day of shopping (and rapidly losing patience with the crowds and lines), I enjoyed a drink at the Redwood Room and a tasty dinner at Kuleto’s with my parents. I snapped a few shots at dinner, my favorite being the one of my dad’s hands shown above.
Afterwards, we took a walk around Union Square to admire the holiday lights and give my new GX1 a spin. Hoping on BART later in the evening provided even more photography fodder than the lights as drunken merrymakers from one of the many Santa Pub Crawls were also making their way home.
