Amore e Matrimonio a Trento

“Italian cities have long been held up as ideals, not least by New Yorkers and Londoners enthralled by the ways their architecture gives beauty and meaning to everyday acts.”

— Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking

I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful weekend in Trentino, Italy this weekend. Have you ever visited Trentino? It’s not really on the usual Italy tourism lap (for Americans, anyway), but wow, it should be. The wedding reception was pretty incredible, a black-tie affair set in a castle overlooking a lake. Congratulations Livio and Marjolien!

The capital city of Trento is set in the Adige valley just south of the Alps foothill range Dolomite Mountains.  It’s dramatically scenic, with the jagged cliffs of the Dolomite Mountains flanking the valley. Beautiful and old, charming buildings and winding alley-ways make up the historic center until you stumble upon the stunning Piazza Duomo. Here you are greeted with a 12/13th century Romanesque-Gothic cathedral, frescoed Renaissance buildings, and several choices for gelato.
